Its OK to be tired!

Today I wanted to talk about that feeling of tiredness and depression. It is known that fatigue/tiredness is a symptom of depression, if not from the depression itself then from the medication.

The biggest thing I learnt about tiredness in my depression journey was that its OK to be tired. See, when someone with depression/anxiety say they are tired, its not because they have stayed up late and might just need an early night, it is actually an exhaustion of the journey but the only way it can be explained is with this word 'Tired.'

I came across this really helpful picture explaining what tiredness actually means for someone with depression/anxiety which Ill share below and let it explain for itself:

This is from a couple of great guys from The Depression Project and I think they have explained this tired feeling really well.

My main point for this post today is to reassure those walking with depression that its OK to say your tired, you have a very valid reason to feel that way. The battle we face is 24/7 in our minds and it is relentless but not impossible to overcome. We know that there are things we can do to help the healing journey e.g. medication, mindfulness, physical activity, cognitive behavioral therapy, counselling etc. One of the most helpful things that I had control of and could actively do in between all those appointments was be kind to myself, give myself permission to feel and learn how to rest my brain.

For the support people, those that you are loving and supporting can not do it with out you. Your reassurance that its OK to rest, feel tired, take time out and to know they aren't a burden is valuable. Take on board this information as it explains what your loved one can't always put into words and don't be afraid to ask someone for help or even support for yourselves.

Healing for mental health comes from a strong supportive village that carry grace for one another, love and strong communication.

Don't forget we are always here for you and if you would like to talk or ask some questions then please do not hesitate to contact.
